Downloading Digital Pics

I’d like to hear from everyone about how to best manage digital pics while thru hiking. I’ve heard some continually mail back smart media cards while on the trail. What works best for you?

I had two large memory cards and used one while the other was being mailed back-and-forth to home, like you mentioned. It worked well for me, and it’s a good way for the people at home to see what you’re up to. Have fun!

I was considering taking a digital camera, but aren’t the battery chargers heavy? And where do you recharge them (how often)? I have only borrowed a digital for a short time, so I am not so familiar with all the required accessories, but they seem to otherwise be more convenient than regular 35mm.

I carried a 35mm. But I shoot lots of hikes with a Minolta Dimage 7i. Hints: Do not use the external LCD use the viewfinder it save batteries. User the highes mAh batteries, 2100 Energizer AA. Use a media card that will store just enough to last until next maildrop. Remeber cards are expensive. Always forward a maildrop with a 35mm in it. Digital cameras do not do well in temps below 32 or above 100 You will experience worse than those temps out there.
