Lazy. There will be a phone at the dam and another one a short distance (3/4 mile) from the dam by the main road, along the trail. You can also contact THE HIKE INN(thehikeinn@graham.main.nc.us) Nancy and Jeff Hoch own the place and can provide you transportation for a fee. They also have rooms and are located about 7 miles from the park. There may be a shuttle from Fontana Village, but I’am not sure if the run in January. There are a lot of people around there that will be glad to help you out. Good Hiking. :happy

lazy dumbo,

going sobo, you will cross over Fontana dam and you should find a payphone by the bathrooms at the dam. going nobo, you will find a local-call-only phone, on the info board, at the boat ramp and parking area.

You will not find anything open or any warm places to hang out in, near there! i’ve never been to “the hike inn” but i expect any warm place will due when waiting for a ride.

I remember reading somewhere that the Fontana pay phone was not working when the writer tried to use it to call for a ride, and the Visitor Center personnel were unwilling to let them use the (non-pay)
Visitor Center phone to make a local call to their shuttle. A cell phone might be handy here…don’t know if you can get cell service.
