Durango back to Denver?

Not able to do my planned trek of the CDT this year (took me too long to find a job that allowed me to save money for not only hikng but paying off student loans while hiking!)

I did get vacation time approved and will be doing the CO Trail now. Yeah! A 480 mile fix for my hiking habit.

Anyway, getting to Waterton Cayon will be very easy as I live in Boulder, CO.

Getting back to Boulder/Denver is not as easy. What is the best way to get back from Durango to the Denver metro area? I may have some people meet me in Durango, but it is not definite. Any input from past hikers would be great!

We met a really friendly hiker who was holing up in Silverton. We hitched back there from Durango and he took us back. You’ll get there. Don’t worry.

Heya Mags, I’m on the trail this summer as well. There is a Greyhound Bus station in Durango. I’ve been meaning to look into it myself. Although I have friends in the Colorado Springs who may give me a lift. When are you planning to be on the trail?

Will be on the trail starting August 21st. It will be a quick pace of about 25 MPD, but thinking it is one I can do (and one I enjoy doing).

Anyway, about hitching. I am not worried, if I had to hitch I would. But, it is always to a have a bit of definite plan when I am not on thru-hiker time but on paid vacation time.

I would not make any firm schedules with that pace. It’s certainly doable, but just remember that the afternoon t-storms can end a hiking day early, and I’d build in some zero time for that possibility.
