E-list for the PCT?

I was wonderin’…

Can anyone recommend an e-list for the PCT? I did try to sign up for the PCT-L through backcountry.net, but nothing happened. And the archives didn’t turn up anything but a message over a year old, so it looks like that one is extinct. (Unless I’m doing something wrong.) For well over a year before my AT thru, I was on the trailplace.com (Wingfoot’s) e-list and AT-L also. Loads of great info from both lists, and I really felt like part of the community well before I hit the trail. I’m planning a 2006 PCT thru and would like to do the same thing this time. These forums are great, don’t get me wrong, but I like the e-list thing too.

Thanks.

The lists are still up. Ryan changed servers, but the lists still exist, though they are much quieter these days. Try www.backcountry.net again, and if it doesn’t work, contact Ryan directly. If you just want to read, without posting, you can go to
http://mailman.backcountry.net/pipermail/pct-l/
http://mailman.backcountry.net/pipermail/at-l/
http://mailman.backcountry.net/pipermail/cdt-l/
for the instant archives.

They are still the most active PCT and CDT lists. The most active AT list is now whiteblaze, I think. This one, Trailforums, gets a good mixture on all the trails and will usually get a response fairly quickly. Thruhikers.com is very very quiet but it also discusses all the long trails.

Okay, thanks, Ginny. Glad to hear the lists are still going. I’ll try again. And I’m sorta glad to hear they’re not AS active. I don’t know about the PCT-L, but when I joined the AT-L before my hike, I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of email I’d get, and many of those emails seemed to be one-liners, inside jokes – lots of babble to sort through. (No offense to anybody ‘r’ nothin’.) Anyhow, thanks again.

Aloha Ramkitten!

Good to see my mentor is still out there dreaming the big dreams! Let’s chat, shall we?

I just found the PCT-L sign up. All seems to be working. Went through www.backcountry.net. Try, try, try again!
