Eastern sierra transportation

I wanted to drop the car off at Whitney portal, take public transportation back to Yosemite Valley, through hike the JMT in about 26 days and drive home. It appears that ESTA does not travel on the weekend, and does not make it to Mammoth in time to catch YARTS on the weekdays anyway. My hiking partner has changed his airline ticket several times already, so I hate to ask him to change to mid week and still spend the night in Mammoth. Got any suggestions

I used Crest Bus get from Lone Pine to Lee Vining and YARTS to get from Lee Vining to Yosemite Valley last summer.

I posted in a hurry and missed your logistical issues with YARTS/Crest. I hope you find a solution.

Its a long day but you could rent a car in Mammoth, drop off your car at Whitney, and then drive back to Mammoth and catch the morning Yarts to Yosemite from outside the McDondalds.

Transport in the Eastern Sierras is a real pain/time killer.
Not too many good options unless you want to pay big bucks for a shuttle.

Reno? Mid-August? If so, I could help.

We’re hiking north and have to shuttle a car to the Tenaya Lodge outside of Yosemite. We are driving to Fresno renting a car driving to Yosemite. Then leaving our car in Yosemite drive the rental home and return it. Then have friends drive us to Whitney. Whew!!! Makes for some fun times and better than Yarts and Trains. Rent a small car save on gas.
