I noticed during my morning hike in Shenandoah National Park today that there are a ton of ripe blackberries along the AT. This, of course, is not the first time I’ve encountered ripe wild fruit along the trail, but it did get me to wondering: Should we hikers eat the fruit? Does doing so violate Leave No Trace? I often read in journals about hikers feasting on wild berries, but I can’t say I’ve ever been involved in a conversation where the appropriateness of doing so has been discussed. Thoughts?
