Does anybody have information on Echo Lake Resort?

My brother and I are planning on hiking the Tuolumne to Tahoe section in Mid-September and were wondering when the resort closes for the season and what kind of supplies are available there.

In 2001, they closed the day we were there: Labor Day Monday. You could probably get by with resupplying there, but there is a little PO right there, I can’t remember now where we sent out package, I think we sent it to the store itself. They have a small deli, I remember buying a sandwich. I would imagine Yogi’s PCT book would have more details on food options there.

No idea when they close. They do have a P.O. that holds mail for hikers. Store is well stocked and you could supply yourself quite easily. Also have a sandwhich and ice cream shop. It is, expectedly, higher priced.

Didn’t the big Tahoe fire go right around there? If it burned down, the selection of ice cream might be affected.

No half gallons at KM. Half gallon price $6, milkshake price $6. Rediculous, so I bought 4 beers for $6 instead. If I were to hike again this place would be a definate SKIP. They misled me about the $10 minimum credit card rule and I wasn’t able to talk to the manager about it, “she didn’t want to talk about it” said a clerk. DONT LET BUSINESS OWNERS ABUSE YOUR RIGHTS BECAUSE YOU ARE A THRUHIKER, they figure you are just a “in and out customer” and they simply seem they are lookin for a scuffle. Maybe it is because they put up with alot of previous hiker trash who have also shown some disgruntledness from recieving shotty service and unfair business practices. It will get worse and worse every year if you don’t let them know that they are in the wrong. I do know that they have to make a profit but I am a polite and softspoken diplomatic thru hiker and I don’t deserve to be treated like a criminal.

As per their website, the store closes after Labor Day but the post office remains open from 11am-2pm until Sep. 30. But it’s still a popular trailhead and not too difficult to hitch a ride into South Lake Tahoe if necessary.

If you dont find anything at at the store and dont want to hitch into South Lake Tahoe, there’s always Berkeley Camp a half-mile down the road. Last year,I had a nice stay there, very nice dinner, intelligent conversation and they sold me some food that I couldnt find at the store. Again, they too may close at labor day. Worth asking about when you arrive.
