This is a beautiful section of the trail. I have made this trip 4 times including my 2006 thru hike. If it is company you seek, best of luck finding a partner, however, I would encourage you to make the trip regardless of whether you have a partner. There are really no worries whatsover on this section. It was one of my first shakedown hikes before my 2006 thru hike and I was very comfortable with minimal prior experience. The trail is very well marked and there is plenty of water along the way with the exception of the last 15 miles or so coming in to Old Highway 40. Incredible camping just past Dicks Pass (or for that matter a couple of miles before the pass. Another incredible place to camp is just after (a couple hundred yards) you reach the Granite Chief Wilderness sign right atop the ridge. Great protected camp on the right of the trail with incredible views both east and west. The climb up Tinker Knob is also a highlight. Enjoy
