I am planning a section hike in July from Fontana Dam to Erwin. Does anybody know of a safe place to park a vehicle in Erwin for about 2 weeks?

When we did our thru hike in 2007, we stayed a couple of days at Uncle Johnny's hostel. His place is right next to the trail in Erwin. If you have a Thru-Hiker Companion book, I'm sure his phone # is in there. He may let you park there. Sorry, but our companion book is in pieces as we would rip out the pages we no longer needed and mail them home. Good luck with your hike!:cheers

I've parked my care at Uncle Johnny's but on another occasion parked it at the Holiday Inn several miles toward town from Uncle Johnny's. I spent one night at the Holiday Inn and they let me leave my car there for 2 weeks. They were very cooperative.

Rooster,
I’ve always found John (of Uncle Johnny’s) to be extremely helpful and if you make use of his lodgings he seems okay with parking your vehicle there for a time. Call him (423-735-0548). And hey, good luck on your section hike.

Just finished a section hike ending in Erwin. Parked my truck at Johnny's. $2.00 per night. No problems. His lot was pretty full of vehicles when we got off the trail.
Holiday Inn is just over a mile from Johnny’s – they seem very trail friendly but no shuttle to the trail. Dunno about parking there.
The Nolichucky River Campground is maybe a mile up the river from the bridge at Johnny’s; more secluded. I’ve parked there for $3.00/night in the past, no problems. May not be the current rate.
Enjoy your hike.

I have parked at Johnny's for the last 2 years and it worked well - last year, my battery was dead and he jump-started me and got me on the road. He is also right on the trail so there in no long hike to find you car and if he is your end point, his porch is quite a good place to rest up before a shower and snack. Plus, his outfitting shop is well stocked with good prices. I am hoping he has a brother further up the trail.
:cheers
