Extended AT to Canada

I understand that there is an “informal” extension to the AT which leads to the Cnadian border to connect up with the their version of the AT. I never see any posts about hikeers making this trip. Has anyone here done this hike and what is it like. Also where does one find data regarding the extension to Canada?

It’s not an “informal” extension. It’s the International Appalachian Trail (IAT). It has a website and everything: http://www.internationalat.org/SIAIAT/. Several people in trailjournals.com have hiked it. Check out the journals of Spur and Jojo Smiley from several years ago and do a search of the website for others.

And on the Canadian part of the trail, through the Chic-Choc mountains in Quebec, it is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous, with a bit of a tundra ecosystem, and with a herd of caribou roaming around.

There are a lot of gorgeous hiking trails in Canada, like the Great Divide Trail through the Rockies (Canada’s answer to the CDT), and I don’t hear much about them. It’s surprising, since the exchange rate favours American hikers coming to Canada.

Curious!
