Fall camping - The Colorado Trail

Want to hike and fall camp in the Frisco/Breckinridge area in the first week of October. What sort of weather should I pack for? Any absolute essential. Have did the AT trail, but that was far lower and warmer. Mostly just overnights, no huge treks…yet.

According to the forecast, daytime highs near 50 degrees F, night-time lows just below freezing (about 28 degrees F). As far as precipitation, it looks like (at this time) you have a very good chance of running into rain and/or snow during your trip.

Of course, given the rapidly-changing weather in mountainous regions, I would be prepared for colder weather than that. I would rather carry extra clothing and food 100 times and not need it than to not have it the one time I do need it.

I always like to check out www.weather.com before going to a new place. You can get the forecast plus historical highs and lows for a particular time of year. I hope this helps.

Heads up in the Colorado mountain towns - “Fat Albert” wants your chocolate - he’s the 500 pound black bear who spent 2 hours in a paralyzed man’s kitchen and helping himself to 4 pounds of his chocolate. The man lives in Aspen and lay just 10 feet away listening to “Albert” breaking dishes fearful the bear might attack him. This is the time of year where the bears are fattening up for hibernation and are seen frequently rummaging for food among humans. Isaac, the paralyzed man, says he doesn’t want the bear shot - he’s been visited half a dozen times before by “Albert”, who once was found sleeping in his dining room. This guy is either the coolest wildlife lover out there or just he’s friggin nuts.
This event happened earlier in the month so you may have read about it already but this story cracks me up! You gotta love “Fat Albert”. If you haven’t read it yet here is the link. If this forum has already posted about this forgive me - I haven’t been on for awhile.
