Family Hiking - Appalachian Trail

Does anyone know of any families hiking the AT this year (like the Troll family in 2005)? I am married and have two sons and am planning on a long distance hike on the AT when I retire from the military in 5-6 years. No pressure on the boys, start from Springer with 6 months to kill and go as far as we can while still keeping it fun for the boys. If we make it the whole way, great. If we stop after 2-3 months because the boys are burned out, that’s great too.

I’d like to follow as many family hikes as possible between now and then in order to be better prepared to keep the hike fun/interesting for the children.

Thanks for the help.

In '02 we hiked some with the Witcher family. It was a mother , father (The Odd Couple), son (Rockslide)(7?) and daughter (Cascade) (9?). They live in Troutville, VA I believe. They have given a slide show at Trail Days before. They did homeschooling while they hiked and children love the hike. I remember they scored so many points each day based on the number of miles they hiked and when they had enough points they spent a zero day in town. That kept them on somewhat of a schedule. If you are interested I think I still have their e-mail address. GA-ME '02
