Anyone interested in wildlife sightings on the trail? For instance, one that I often think about is the time I was sitting at the pic-nic table in front of the cabin at White House Landing. A blue jay was making a beeline across the lake, about 20 feet off the lake. I saw it first as it flew over me. I was amazed at the speed. Suddenly, when it got about halfway across the lake, I saw this hawk in a dive. That hawk was diving at high speed, wings tucked back and at an awsome angle, like almost straight down. The hawk snatched that jay and in an istant was out of the dive and on it’s way.

In 2000 I was hiking the AT and it was early on, either Georgia of NC. It was a rainy foggy day and I came around a corner to see an emu walk across the trail and through the woods. I thought I was hallucinating until I got to town and found out one had escaped from a farm and was wondering around.
