Looking for a car-camping site/campground closest to Mt. Whiteface and Mt Passaconaway (to hike them from the south, not from Kancamagus Hwy).
Somewhere near Ferncroft or Wonalancet in order to get an early start on the summit, to save on pre-dawn driving. Tamworth Camping area? It will be on a weekend mid to late September.
Any ideas?

OT, There are a number of camping areas in the tamworth area both private and public. The links that Neighbor provided should be a great help. I hiked Whiteface from that side earlier this summer and it was just beautiful. All the trails on that side that are maintained by the Wonalancet Outdoor Club are very rugged and beautiful. You may want to check out the WOC to see if they have any camping suggestions.
