Films or info on tape?

Where would I go to find films/GOOD books on the AT or PCT?

I am looking at hiking one or the other in the next year and I would like to study up as much as possible while saving funds.

I have heard about a few, but any suggestions on where the BEST books and films can be found would be most helpful.

I thank you in advance.

There are a number of DVDs available. Try checking out Amazon.com. They are offering both Trek and 2000 milese to Maine for $43. there are also a couple of DVDs on the PCT which used to be available at REI: Walking the West.

This old school tape is fun. Trailside series.

If you’re considering hiking or even just dig the PCT, Yogi’s PCT handbook kicks some serious boo-tay. www.pcthandbook.com What’s really cool about it is that it’s not just Yog’s opinions…she did a great job of garnering other thru-hikers views about virtually everything connected to the trail…gear, strategies, town stops, mail drops, etc. Highly recommended.

To get an idea of the good time you’ll have on the PCT, you should get the “Walk” and “Still Walking” DVD’s. Funny and entertaining. You’ll see that thru-hiking isn’t all about making the miles. It’s also a hell of a lot of fun!

You can get the movies here: www.walkpct.com

One of the best I’ve seen on the AT is called Appalachian Impressions by Flager Films.

I’ve bought a lot of books on the AT and the PCT from amazon for pretty cheap (postage aside). The problem is that a lot of these books are terrible, I’d say about half of them aren’t worth reading. I would suggest taking the reviews to heart.

I agree, just got Yogis book for my PCT hike this year. Its cool to see other hikers I know and all the little info on towns etc are worth the $35.

All the above films are worth checking into, plus if you want to check mine out, WALKING WITH FREEDOM, you can get it at campmor

Whatever you do just GO! Dont make excuses or change your mind evne if you dont find books or films as helpful as you will liek, the thing is this, no matter how much you study, nothing AND I MEAN NOTHING will prepare you like actually putting the pack on and hiking.

Good luck, HYOH.
