Has anyone used the MSR Waterworks? Any feedback good, bad, ugly? I like the fact that it can screw onto a dromedary bag and a nalgene bottle, seems sensible.

i used an MSR on 1 and 2/3 AT hikes. i plan to use it on the PCT. it was heavy compared to polarpur or aqua mira, but i sure was glad that i had it when it was really hot and didn’t have to wait for chemicals to treat my water properly.
it’s fairly easy to take apart and clean and i didn’t have any troubles with parts breaking or leaking. it will become really irritatingly slow if the water you are pumping gets muddied up. however, i was particularly careful not to put the intake hose into water that was really silty and cleaned it in town each time in a sink.
i liked it too that it screwed onto a nalgene and my waterbag, but if you were looking to cut weight and weren’t disgusted by floaties, you could definitely switch to chemicals and save weight on both the pump and the need for a nalgene to pump into. you could just use gatorade or soda bottles.

in the end I got the camelback adapter and pluged it straight into my miniworks ex.
it can be slower when compared to the katadyn hiker but its not that slow. i took aqua mirra most of the way, but when water started getting scarces, i took my msr miniworks.
the only thing i didnt like about the katadyn hiker is the two hoses can easily mix together… pretty much no change of that on the msr.

I found the MSR pumps and filters to be the most durable and easy to repair and clean, on the whole.
Weight-wise, there are lighter and smaller ones out there, but I have heard complaints about htem for field stripping and repairs, etc etc.
Now, I use Polar Pure almost exclusively when hiking along with a bandana for particulate filtering, for the weight savings (about 15ozs) and space savings. But the MSR still comes along on shorter hikes, and all canoe trips (overnighters) and basecamp hikes. Mine is 3 years old, and have only sanded the filter down 2x, still works great.
