Finally decided how to thru hike this year

Going to start on April 3rd… at Harper’s Ferry going NOBO. Figure to get to Katahdin by July. Flip flop to Springer, go NOBO to Harper’s Ferry. Arrive in October. The only negative I see is the black flies but I have dealt with them before. I’ll also avoid the hot summer of Pennsylvania and Northern VA.

I figure this is probably the best way to hike mostly in peace.

sorry, I don’t mean to laugh, but living in NC and having traveled to both VA and PA in the summer, I much prefer the heat in the north.

It sounds like a great plan for beating the crowds, though.

I’d say that an April start at Harpers Ferry is too early. You might catch up with mud season and black fly in New England.

If you are starting that early, why not start at Springer?

Wild Hare doesn’t know he is talking about. It is much hotter in the summer in Pennyslvania at 1300 feet elevation vs North Carolina at 4000+ feet elevation. <!— factcheck@yahooo.com —>

Flopping to the Georgia heat in July? What are you, a sado-masochist?!

How about flopping back to Harper’s Ferry and going SOBO?

Have a great hike, however you decide to do it.

How about delaying a few more weeks? Start in late april. You will also avoid much of the crowd this way, but still have the social aspects of the trial in grasp.

I did not consider elevations. Generally, the further south you go, the hotter it gets - something about proximity to the equator --??

And since you are checking facts, there, I’m a :girl
