Are there open fires allowed on the CT?

Yes, just about everywhere. If we have a unusually dry summer they will be outlawed except in established campgrounds. Use an established fire ring so you don’t screw up a new piece of dirt.

So we can use small wood burning camp stoves? Would be awesome.

Wood stoves are fine if there is no ban in effect. 2 summers ago smoking cigarettes outside was even banned. You had to smoke inside your house or car.

And during that summer I had someone tell me that he was smoking a cigar in his car in the Peoples Republic of Boulder Colorado and they told him to put it out or get fined. Maybe there was another reason for that besides fire danger. Not sure.

I used a zip stove on one of my CT thru hikes and it worked great. That was before Seg 23 was moved to the top of the divide. There is about 30 miles without trees now so you might have to do without cooking for that part.

Its been a dry winter so far in Colorado. That might allow some early starts but I wouldn’t be surprised to see fire bans this year.
