Firming up section-hike plan

My hiking buddy and I are trying to make the final decision as to where we will section hike the AT for the first time next year.

I’ve day-hiked the Jenkins Gap area around Front Royal and also the Harper’s Ferry area. I’d like to connect these two areas and hike from Front Royal to Harper’s Ferry.

I figure this would be about a 5-day trip - right?

I know you can park for extended periods at Harper’s Ferry but can you (or should you) leave a car for this length of time anywhere in Front Royal? (Jenkins Gap parking area or Compton Gap parking area for example)

We’ll be in this part of Virginia in the middle of May, does this seem to be a reasonable goal?

You’d have to consider us both relative hiking novices as short overnighters is all we’ve really done.

I appreciate any good advice - thanks.

5 days is about 10 miles per day which should not be a problem unless you try and carry too much weight. If you call the 4h center in Front Royal and let then know where you are going to leave your car it should be safe. There is a side trail from the 4h center to the appalachian trail which is about a quarter of a mile.
