Fish Lake or Hyatt Lake?

What are the pros/cons for these two resupply points? Craig’s PCT Planner shows Hyatt but Fish might work better for my hike.

Hyatt Lake has a nice PCT campsite where you can use the showers for free, and decent pizza. Fish Lake had an ok breakfast. But for resupply, frankly i wouldn’t use either of them. I’d just carry from Ashland to Crater Lake.

Last summer I resupplied @ both ‘resorts.’ Here’s the lowdown/recon from '10:

Hyatt Lake: Small store located in a converted trailer by the lake - mostly snack food, but resupply possible if you’re creative. Great restaurant with good pizza & FREE ice cream cones for PCT thru-hikers  Bill, the GM @ Hyatt Lake started this policy a few years ago & is a really cool guy to hang out with. Free Hot showers & campsite for PCT hikers about 5 minute walk from store/restaurant in the campground.

Fish Lake: Tiny, pricey store - similar to Hyatt Lake, it stocks mostly snacks, but they have a hiker box (where I scored last year luckily due to a section hiker with too much food). Excellent restaurant with seating on the outdoor deck - the local Huckleberry ice cream a la mode is to-die-for. Inexpensive showers & camping available.

Both ‘resorts’ (stretch of the word) are hiker friendly. Last year I made a point of hanging out with the staff/owners of most of the small PCT stops to hear their stories. They really enjoy it when some of the hikers make an effort to talk to them and hang out rather than just using the facilities and marching on.

I enjoy the challenge of resupplying in these tiny stores along the PCT. If you’re a picky eater, then it might be a good idea to send maildrops. By hitting both Hyatt & Fish Lake resorts, I didn’t need to carry much food weight for the stretch from Ashland to Crater Lake N.P.

Happy Trails!

I didn’t go to Hyatt but we tried to hitch down to Fish Lake for lunch (yeah I know there is a trail down there…) and it was the only time I never got a hitch somewhere anywhere on the AT and PCT. I spent 90 minutes and was with Teatree who is a master ride catcher. Seemed like all tourists/boaters
