Does anyone have experience with fishing along the PCT?
What areas are recommended for fishing?
What equipment is recommended?
Does it require a permit, or I can do without?

During my PCT hike in '08 I brought a 5&1/2 foot spinning rod through the sierras from kennedy meadows to sierra city and fished quite a bit, especially in the high sierras, with much success. In hind site I probably would have sent my rod home a town or two before sierra city. I used panther martin spinning lures. There are other places to fish along the pct in all three states, but the fishing is kind of spotty after the high sierras and it probably wouldn’t be worth the weight to carry a rod anywhere else on the trail during a thru-hike. Fishing permits in California are costly. I bought one, but was never asked to present it.
