Fishing? - Appalachian Trail

Hi, is there any good places to fish along the trail? Was thinking of shipping a small hiking pole for summer use. It might be nice to have some fish for dinner one night.

Peace,

I carried a pole much of the way from virginia to maine, however, I never did catch fish and eat them. I caught a sucker in a pond in back of a hotel once, though. There really weren’t many places to fish and there will be even less this year if the drought keeps up, but it was cool to have a pole when there was. I caught fish, but they were either not legal size, or not good kinds to eat. Even though I didnt have a license, I tried to follow the guidelines for the states I fished in. My thinking was that they made the guidelines for a reason- to effectively manage and protect the populations of the fish in the area. You will run the risk of getting caught by the DNR and ticketed if you don’t have a fishing license, but the chances of that are pretty slim (like i was when i finished).

You could always just roll up about 20 yards of fishing line, take a few hooks and just find a stick to tie it to.

Just lay the stick half in and half out of the water. Who would know by walking by that you were fishing. If you see the man, just throw it all in.

I usually have as much luck fishing along the AT as I do in a boat out in the middle of a lake…need I say more?
