I would recommend something versatile and flexible. I bought a Patagonia R2 that I love, warm, flex fabric, zip up front that goes up around neck, lightweight, etc…Bought it in Boulder on a trip, was a return from some rich college kid so I got it for dirt cheap from the store, about $70 if I remember well…

Keep your eye out on any number of the online stores, you can often get great deals on pricey items, I just found this jacket on sale for $105, normally about $145… Or, check with your local REI, they have a return’s day sale once or twice a year, and sell off the items returned throughout the year, you can get great deals there too…

Enjoy your hike,

I am too married to my marmot driclime windshirt. I start April one. I could not justify a 200 wt fleece so I am bringing only a 100 wt fleece (sometimes called microfleece) to layer under my windshirt. You can find one in the 9-10 oz range for 25 bucks or so if you search.
The new polartec thermal pro fabric is also really plush for the weight and the polartec site dubs it the highest warmth to weight ratio achieved by the company thus far. It is the really high pile fleece with out the weight. Watch out though. They are still pretty pricey.
