I recall a few '03 hikers using fleece blankets during summer. Some are light; less than 2lbs maybe? I used an inexpensive Lafuma down bag for summer. It worked fine except that 1 night on Mt.Rogers. Don’t send home your warm bag until Pearisburg.

During the hottest months of summer I’ve used a fleece sleeping bag. It’s light (about 20 oz)and can be zippered for cooler nights or left open when it’s hot. However, they are not very comfortable when you get into the Whites and higher peaks.

in 2000 I used a fleece bag from memorial day weekend until late august. There were a few cold nights but overall not bad. I always slept in my tent and had a thermarest. in addition I had long underwear and fleece pants and jacket. If you are strictly a shelter dweller Maybe a real bag might be better.
