I just checked travelocity for Aug. 13th, the same day I am flying out west to San Fran on the way to the JMT. I found it for $202, NYC to LAX.

Be sure to check the airline sites directly also, especially SouthWest and JetBlue. JetBlue can probably get you to Burbank for around $130 to $175 if you are flexible and Southwest is similar. Another option is to see what fare you can get on one of these airlines and then see if priceline.com can get you a better fare.
