assuming a start date of 1st march, what is the furthest north one could start and head south to springer. with a reasonable assumption of no major delays by snow/ hostile weather. teh group wisdom is appreciated in advance.

Starting March 1 you will have winter weather no matter where you start. I’ve seen major snow storms in the Appalachians into mid-May. The southern AT has enough altitude that there can be a good sized storm in every state along the trail. The mid-Atlantic is less high, but farther north - so you would still have snow. Just be prepared with good warm gear and deal with it as it comes.
