Next years’ hikers will definitely see a different trail than we’ve walked in the past! That article mentioned that hikers will have to be shuttled around the area. I suggest looking at maps and trying to figure out an alternate route, one that does not involve interrupting a continuous hike. You may not be able to walk the “official PCT”, but you should be able to find other trails that can get you back to the PCT further up the trail.

I agree, Yogi. I’ve talked with FS people about the issue and their solution so far is shuttling. I told them to please look at the “continuous trail” alternative. I think I might well have to come up with my own trail.

I contacted the trail manager for the PCT at the USFS and he said that the FS is working on a route for the PCT, one that would allow hiking all the way. He further stated that the trail would likely be routed to the east of the current trail. Check the PCTA web site for an announcement that will be posted when the FS has made a decision.
