As part of an independent study for Wofford College Interim we took to the Appalachian Trail (in the dead of winter) seeking to discover the depths of it’s history and culture. What we found exceeded even that. Somehow the brutality of the winter wilderness was overshadowed by numerous counts of serendipitous grace, and we will never be the same because of it. In this film, interviews with Jennifer Pharr Davis, Brian King, Kip Redick, Laurie Potteiger and others shed light on the complexity of the history and culture of the AT. Furthermore, our journey is a true testament to the indescribable power of “The Trail”.

I'm definitely hoping to see what people think! I know its not perfect, this was the first film I've ever made, so if you have criticism please don't be a dick about it. But constructive criticism would be great, I want to learn how I can improve in the future.

ps. I know the audio quality sucks:/

I liked the film. It was fresh and it was real. I watched it several times. I suspect that it was much harder to make than the hike itself. You guys talking and interacting to the trail told a much better tale than some of the people you talked to. Several interviews should be setting on the cutting room floor but I suspect that you already know that. Good job.....I want more.

Thanks! The making of the film took an unimaginable amount of effort and time, but it was meaningful work. And yes, several of the interviews did not meet our expectations, but because of who they where with and what they had to say we decided to keep them. I will definitely not do another film without using external recording devices. Be on the look out for another film in the next year or so. I will be conducting research on pit vipers in Ecuador for 4 months in the fall and plan to do something with that.
