"Fluted" Walking Sticks

Hi all,

I pass this along only because the idea might appeal to someone out there - a dual-purpose walking stick that can also be played as a flute.

These are non-hiking artisan-friends of mine in town here, having a sale, they sent me a notice and I immediately thought of hikers. Obviously not for a thruhike except for the most iconoclastic, poetic or stout-hearted (I suspect they are heavier than a Leki!). But for someone spending a little time in the woods, fording creeks, and feeling musical, it might be just the ticket.

If it’s not your cup of tea, please don’t flame them. I only pass this along as an interest item.
For a picture, contact them directly:

“Walking stick flutes have a six hole transverse flute located in the middle of the Walking Stick. Each is individually tuned to a major scale (G) and have a range of 2 octaves. Playing instructions are included.” Installed compass in walking stick too!
Retail $69.00 Month of January $50.00 plus shipping…

I make Native American Style Flutes. and have made a few that were walking sticks for people They came out pretty nice. Most of the ones I make are with carved bird heads on the end. I Plan on carring mine with me on my hike. its a light weight douglas fir flute that has a great tone.

Try http://www.serenitybambooflutes.com/page8.html for a unique inked bamboo walking stick flute. The sticks have full color designs engraved into the wood and inked, by hand, using a high quality permanent ink. I just ordered one (opting for a wolf design out of several options) and am anxious to try it out. There’s something surreal about a flute sound in the woods. Even though it won’t collapse into a short size like a Leki, bamboo is lite weight; ideal for your long hike pleasure.
