Fly fishing on the CT

I am starting my thru hike (Denver)in late june and wanted to see if anyone has fished the streams/rivers along the trail. I have a 7 peice rod that’s packable but dont want to have to carry it the entire way if only a couple segments are fishable.

Unfortunately I’ve never done it much - always in too much of a hurry, but there are numerous fishable streams and a few lakes along the route. Almost all segments contain some fishable waters somewhere. I met a homeless man on Sargents Mesa a few years ago who was hiking the trail slowly and fishing for food. He had been out over two months when we met. His plan was to do the entire trail over a 4-5 month period, fishing, and working odd jobs at resupply towns to get money for everything else.

I haven’t completed the entire CT yet, but there are numerous fishing spots along the CT in the San Juans that I have crossed while segment hiking. Examples include Baldy Lake, Little Molas Lake, Molas Lake, Cataract Lake, Rainbow Lake, Cochetopa Creek, and a myriad of smaller lakes, beaver ponds, and creeks. I am still undecided about bringing the gear this year as do the entire CT due to the extra weight and space required…SJ Ron
