I was just wondering where at fontana dam would be a good place to leave a food drop. I am planning on dropping it off on my way to Springer. Should I leave it at the visitors center or at the lodge. Or does anyone have another idea. Ichabod

I used the Post office in Fontana Village, you can pick up a shuttle for a buck that rides you over there. Or you can send it Hike Inn and Jeff and Nancy will fix you right Up.

I Highly suggest THE HIKE INN on Rt 28. If you call them from the pay phone at the Dam, they will even come pick you up, Wash your clothes and take you to a Real town for food and resupply and drop you back at the Dam the next day. Great people. You can’t beat the stay here.

I can’t recommened the Hike Inn enough especially if your not doing mail drops. Resupply at the store near the trading post was overpriced and lacked good thru hiking foods.(and they won’t take a personal check if the post office is closed for cash back). The awesome people who run the Hike Inn will take you to Robbinsville to a big market and AYCE pizza and salad. :pimp :cheers

The Hike Inn is tops, but they don’t take credit cards so be prepared to pay in cash.

Does anyone know if these places are still in business. I am looking for a place to send a maildrop and take a shower outside the park near Davenport Gap.

Both of these places are open. I VERY strongly recommend Standing Bear Farm; very cool place, very cool people, and only a short hike on the Trail after the road to M. Momma’s.

Send mail to:

Standing Bear Farm
(M.Guzman/C. Owen)
4255 Green Corner Road
Hartford, TN 37753

In addition to holding hiker mail, they also have food for sale (you won’t need much to continue on to near-by Hot Springs) and they also offer shuttles to a town/market.
