Just wanting some feedback on what various people have used for food bags. Material, does it have a hook for hanging, sizes, etc and anything else that may be useful in picking one out for an AT thru-hike in 2012. Thanks!

I use either a sylnylon stuff sack or a Sea and Ski waterproof bag.

Ditto–just an old sleeping bag stuff sack large enough for however much food you plan on carrying.

Sil-nylon or spinnaker. A cord and cordlock closure is best for hanging from the mice-proof hangers in the shelters (vs roll-top closure). Don’t plan on reusing it as a sleeping bag stuff sack after you’ve smeared it with peanut butter and the oils of melting cheese and salami.

Gallon size ziploc bags, or plastic grocery store bags seem the preferred way to go, over anything that you have to pay for. The hikers with these just look smart.

I use a differen color mesh bag for each time of day meal (supper, lunch, breakfast) with the food packaged in zip locks so I can see what’s in there without rooting through. as long as you hang with a “mpuse cabob” you’ll never have a critter bother it.
