Food - The Long Trail - Vermont

Hello everyone! I’ve done some week-long trips before, but never had to resupply, so I’ve brought all my food for the duration of the hike (usually mountainhouse or a premade mix for dinner). I would like to mostly buy my food along the way and was wondering what kind of concoctions people made with the food they could buy in the stores near the trail. What’s light, easy to find and mix, and supplies decent calories? What are some favorites? Thanks so much!!

I’ve only hiked the AT part of the Long Trail. But the groceries probably carry something similar to what I ate on my PCT hike last year:

Hi! you will most likely find some good ideas if you check out the “Food” topic room on the left hand side of the TJ “rooms” column (near the bottom of the list). Good luck!

I see Pacer mentions tortellini - it’s a great trail food (if your cooking, I didn’t for my LT hike). Carry some good quality olive oil for flavor (it helps almost anything and is awesome for calorie/weight ration, like any other oil or fat).

I picked up breads, dry sausages (like hard salami), cheeses, assorted nuts, as well as whatever good chocolate bar was on sale. I made sure to eat fresh fruit and vegetables in town, but only carried dried fruit on the trail. I calculated the calories per ounce for everything I buy for the trail and avoided almost everything with less than 100 calories per ounce.
