Fording streams in the Sierra's

During my 2004 AT thru hike I always removed my GoreTex-lined boots and put on sandals to ford streams. However in Yogi’s PCT Handbook she urges hikers to forego the GoreTex and ford the streams wearing non-GoreTex boots. The logic being that you will save time not having to stop and swap out foot gear and the non-GoreTex footwear will dry faster than those with GoreTex.

I’ve already gone ahead and bought two pairs of non-GoreTex boots (mesh-topped MerrillReactor Ventillators, low & mid-cut), but I would sure like to get some more opinions on the wisdom of leaving them on as I ford the many many streams in the Sierra’s.

Thanks,

p.s.: Hope to see everyone at ADZPCTKO
