i was just up usfs road 42 to the parking area last week and it was in wonderful repair. the camry should have no problems provided you keep it under 60. there were a minimal amount of branches on the ground and those that were on the road were only stick size.
as a side note, it was the first time i took my jeep up the road. what fun!

Been up there the past few weekends, as long as there is no ice, you’re golden. I thought I drove fast going 35mph, big boy is da man if he’s doing 60. Put it in low gear and stay around 30 the road is one lane and you wanna keep eyes out for opposite direction vehicles. There are areas where two cars can get by each other. Have Fun!!!

we were at the FSRD 42 parking area Dec. 1 and then again on Jan 1. I have a van and had no problems. There was a guy there, Bill Wade of Bill Wades road trip that I mentioned in my tj, who was driving a toyota camry or something similar. He came up FS 42 and followed us back down taht route and had no problem. Just make sure to not go the long route, via nimblewill, I think is the road. We traveled up that route and it took forever. Took us through some intense hunting grounds with remnants of recent kills apparent. Interesting but wouldn’t want to go that way in a car. Interesting drive either way. Good luck to you.

didnt actually get up to 60 but i did get up to about 50 coming back down and scared my friends so i had to slow down. but what fun in a 4wd. they really need to film a commercial on that road.

May have mentioned this before - Route 42, near Springer, has a small parking area a lot of starters use. Last Spring this parking lot was classified as a “you must pay a fee to park here” by the authorities.
However, when I hiked through last month, the signs have all been changed to read that the lot is now free for parking.

We went to Spinger parking area Saturdat Feb 19. We went in via Doublegap rd. It is in excellent condition. We went out via Nimblewill which is not in the best of shape. In a car I would definitely use the DoubleGap route.
