Forester Pass in mid August

Will we need crampons for Forester Pass in mid-August this year? How about ice axes?

What about stream crossings? Anyone guessing on that one yet?

Last year - a big snow year - Forester was completely clear by late July. This year, folks have already gotten through with crampons / ice axes.

Also, the streams were no-brainers by early August. Maybe thigh-high instead of calf-high.

And the skeeters will be gone.

I hiked over Forrester Pass last year in August, and had no snow. The only place that still had snow on the trail was on the south side of Muir Pass. There were three or four small snow fields that were passable with only trekking poles. No crampons or ice axes needed. By the time you go, it should be snow free.
