Hi, I just saw frogg toggs original rainsuit on ebay for around $50.00 US. Is that a good deal? Are frogg toggs the best rain hear for hiking the AT. I have a goretex coat and nylon rain pants and am just wondering if I should spend the money to get these? I know frogg toggs is light but is it actually breathable?

I wore my Frogg rain suit on the AT in Georgia-N. Carolina in February in steady rain, ice storms and snow and thought they worked well. The allowed enough air flow that I never got sweaty underneath. I would wear my Frogg pants on muddy days even if not raining so that I could keep my pants mud-free(that way I could wear my hiking pants at night to keep warm inside my sleeping bag).

Frogg Toggs are light and reletively inexpensive. Their down side is that they are not overly durable. Conventional wisdom is to bring along duct tape for them.

That being said, I now use a Marmont Precip top and will be trying Frogg Togg rain pants this year. My rational is that I don’t wear long pants much, especially rain pants. So, I will have something with me that is light weight and will keep me dry when I need to cover up my legs.

We just bought a WalMart set that is similar but I think better for $14!! jacket and $14 pants!!! I wore mine at Trail Days during the rain on Saturday night and walked from town to campground and once since then. Awesome. They really breathe. The material is similar to the Frog Togg but softer and what appears to be more durable. Ultra light weight. The only drawback is they are yellow!! And I mean Yellow. But you only wear them in camp or as an extra layer on windy days. If you have to carry a jacket or pants this is a great options. It now goes in my pack. The name was O2 and made by 3M.
