FS: JMT books - John Muir Trail

I just posted for sale the JMT Guide by Alan Castle on Amazon.com and also Trout Fishing on the John Muir Trail by Beck. Both books are in good condition, and are the lowest or next to lwest priced listing for each book. I don’t expect them to last long.

I’m hoping a serious hiker/fisherman who is planning a hike in '07 will take advantage of this deal. The books served me well on my 15 day journey.

FYI, my Seller name on Amazon is YankeeVolunteers.

Happy Trails!

I have the JMT guide book by Alan Castle. I don’t know how you could let it go!

I am planning a thru hike of the JMT for August/September. I have been doing a lot of research. I am confused on maps. Which ones, for which sections, and where/how to get them. I don’t want to overdo it (cost/weight). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

John, one solid option for maps is the Tom Harrison John Muir Trail Map Pack. Available from Tom Harrison Maps, it’s a set of 13 separate topo maps on 8-1/2 x 11 sheets covering the entire trail. Scale is 1 inch=1 mile, and detail is reasonably good. The entire set weighs 3 ounces and costs $18.95 (2004 price).

Another option is a set of JMT maps created using the National Geographic TOPO series. I haven’t attempted to print these but they look pretty good and the price is right.
