Fuel and flight

I’m flying down to Atlanta next week to start my thru hike. I called my airline (Airtran) and asked about fuel containers for my stove. They told me that they do not allow even empty fuel containers on flights. Is this true? Is there a way to get around this?

I’m not an expert, but with the warning levels we are at because of post 911/war with Iraq I wouldn’t count on it. I’d plan on getting the supplies after you land. But than again I’m not an expert,I’m planning on leaving from my home state (maine) so I don’t need to fly with anything. Although, a question I have for you…how are you packing all your gear to fly? What are you doing about a knife being that you can’t take one on the plane?

Remember, Airtran was once known as ValueJet. They are sensitive to anything flammable, full or empty.:oh

I don’t fly often so i don’t know a lot of the “rules” before or after 9/11. I guess i assumed that if my knife and empty fuel bottle was in my backpack and under the plane
(no carry on for me) that i shouldnt have a problem. Am i wrong?
And yes, i know Airtran is/was ValueJet … but they had the cheapest tickets(for obvious reasons) that i could find.

Yea,the airlines will definitely freak out if you try to bring a knife or anything that could be construed as a weapon on the plane at all, thanks to our “friends” in afghanistan…atleast thats what bennett says:boy
