This is for all of us shelter rats…
How long did it take before you stopped bumping your head on the top of the shelter?

I haven’t hiked yet, but everytime I go to a shelter I knock my head without fail!
Most of the time I’m with something and it goes something like this:
“Hey, just to let you know, watch your head when you stand up. Those beams hurt wicked bad!”
“Yeah, ok, Joy. Do you think I’m stupid?”
“I’m just saying…watch ou…OUCH! See. That’s what happens.”
“Ok, sure. I’m not as dumb as you. I’m not going to hit my head on a…Ouch! oh. I see.”
Humility at it’s best, my friends!
Joy
And don’t forget about the big nails that are sometimes poking out of the wall. They hurt big time! Yeoweeeeeee!
Popknot
joy, see what happens when your as tall as a basketball player! hahaha
us jockey sized folks dont gotta worry bout that… we just have to be carefull not to fall through the cracks in the flooring!

BC watch out for Plumorchard gap shelter, even the mice bump their little heads there. Fact is that is what cause the genetic defect in bald mice. hehehe

Yup, still bump my head. That’s why I like the new style shelters, like William Penn.

I almost knocked myself out at Gooch Gap.
I stopped hitting my head toward the end of my hike…well, it wasn’t practically on a daily basis, at least.
bearbait
Hit my head five times at one shelter in one night…first two times I got pity…after that I got none.

I’m with Mr.Cactus. After meeting him it was reassuring to know I’m not the only short-arse out there (hehehe). Never knocked my head although it began raining centipedes inside Blue Mtn shelter. I never saw 6 guys put up there tents so fast. :lol
Ross :cheers
P.S I did come close to falling from the top bunk at Plum Orchard, woke up with my legs hanging off the edge.

Those older shelters in Maryland are like weapons if you’re not careful. Definitely designed for the height-challenged.
