Anyone have any good suggestions or comments about the GA section.

I assume you mean the Ga section of the AT.
When the weather is wet theres plenty of water except on top of Blood mountain. When it’s dry you better supply everywhere you find it.
From Springer to Hawk Mountain shelter will be the easiest day you will have in GA. I rate it easy to moderate.
Most of the rest is moderate, stenuous, and very strenuous.
Of course it all depends on the shape you are in.
As a section hiker slug, this is only my opinion.
Lots of trail conditions reported on White Blaze for your veiwing pleasure.
I think GA is tough for newbies and section hikers.
Winter will give the best views.
Blue Mountain and Tray Mountain shelters can be very cold in the wind. Blood Mountain shelter is an interesting artifact but I don’t recommend it. Everytime I pass by I visit and it always reminds me of an alley in New Orleans. Smells the same too.
Bears present but not a problem. Recommend bagging and most of the shelters provide hangers. Most also have privys.

I’d second Nearly Normal reply. I did however stay in Blood Mountain shelter without any problems. It does look like somethng out a New Orleans alley. It is a little scary but will make you a better person.

Ga is tough mostly because most people are just hitting the trail. In the early spring, at the start of the season the trees are bare and the sun can beat down on you.

BUT BUT BUT you are hiking and that should put a smile on anyones face!

I have sectioned nearly all of the GA trail several times. The only part that I find overly strenuous is Kelly Knob and the trail to Deep Gap Shelter. Of course I hiked it in the middle of a thunder storm, and as the last climb of the day. I strongly suggest that NOBO hikers camp @ Addis or one of the stealth sites before Addis( there are several but you really have to look for them) and then tackle Kelly on fresh legs.

FYI The Down from Kelly is just as bad as the Up

Is there anywhere to stop (pick up point for vehicle) on the Georgia NC line. If not how far is it to the next stopping point in NC.

To me, the single toughest climb on the AT in Georgia was the slog up Rocky Mountain from Indian Grave Gap.
