Gaiters - Appalachian Trail

Looking to get a pair of gaiters for 2 upcoming AT section hikes to help keep some water and trail junk out of my shoes. Anybody have a pair that they simply could not live without?

for lightweight comfort, we’re looking forward to trying out the ‘dirty girl’ gaiters this year on the pct…in '03, i made some gaiters (regular knee high type), but i added ‘spats’ around the ankle that came down over the toes of my shoes (to help shed the rain)…i loved those gaiters in the winter (except in snow, when a ‘snowball’ would sometimes form up in under the spats!)…but generally they added warmth and kept me dry…(in summer though, they could be too warm!)…alas…a big RAT at a campsite on stony mtn in PA STOLE one of those gaiters and hid it among the b-zillion rocks up there!..(as far as i know, there’s still a warrant out for his arrest, the nasty little whiskered varmint!)…but my good friend, happyfeet, came to my rescue and made me another pair!..i think all you really need, though, is just a little something to keep out some of the ‘trail junk’ as you say…yes…check out ‘dirty girls’!

I use Outdoor Research’s Flex-Tex low gaiters. The velcro failed around Damascus, but Mount Rogers Outfitters exchanged them for me and when the second pair’s velcro failed in Vermont I just stitched it back onto the gaiter and OR replaced it when I got home. Love how my laces stay clean and not frozen. Also like all the trail “stuff” that stays out of my boots. Mine weighed 3.6 oz~D.
