Gaitor pants - Appalachian Trail

gaitor pants:

I am working on a hiking pant that has zip-off pant legs. These pant legs can be dropped down to your ankles and serve as gaitors also. Still in the idea and design phase, but was wondering what some of you think of the idea.

For doing the A-T right? Did you ever hear of Walmart? Go there and buy some $8 or maybe$7 now windpants and tell me what you think? Tell me what you all think? As far as Kmart vs walmart windpants? I hate to mention commercial names, even if it does put someones dreams closer to reality, so you guys Burry me with my gaitors on,the ones with out the zippers. Ok?:oh

I prefer convertible pants myself. These would be for those people who like to use convertible pants and also like to use gaitors. Since I wouldnt wear pants and gaitors at the same time, I thought it would be nice to be able to convert my convertible pants into shorts/gaitors. Pant legs would, yes, unzip, and then roll down in half to serve as gaitors.

nice idea but, IMHO, unless your hiking in snow, both tall n short gaitors are over-rated and hold in too much heat and moisture…
i think it would be a very limited market.

i would however like to see someone make a gaitor out of a material like ladies black stockings… just a tube you would put on before your boots then pull down over top of boots. they would weigh almost nothing, keep debris out of your boots, and would allow heat and moisture to excape. in 2000 i met a hiker in the wilderness who made his own gaitors out of stockings like i described… and swore by them… dunno how well they stay down over top of boot or shoe… might be something to work on
