Gas Canister Availability

Are the MSR-style compressed gas canisters for my stove available at either Mt Princeton Resort or the Monarch Crest Store?

Hey WB ~
Jetboil, SnowPeak, Primus, MSR are all isobutane/propane mix and all have the same thread on the top. The only difference is the ink printed on the canister. SnowPeak’s at REI are more grams of fuel and usually 50 cents less, and this is true whether it’s the 110 g size or the 250 gram. Worry not. You have options. Hike on.

While any cannister that fits will work, there are differences in the formulation between brands. With my Snow Peak stove, I have found that Snow Peak cannisters boil water faster than MSR cannisters. The difference is in the ratios of Isobutane, butane, and Propane. Here are the formulations:

Snow Peak I(65)/P(35)
MSR I(80)/P(20)
Primus I(10)/B(70)/P(20)
Burton I(70)/P(30)

I’m aware of that, Postcard, but thanks. That’s why I said “MSR-style”.

I have the same query running on the CT subforum at Whiteblaze.net

Replies there to date indicate the answer is “no” for both locations. Also, the Monarch Crest Store was reportedly for sale in 2013 and remains so now, so call before sending anything there in 2014. Any shipments to them must be via UPS as the staff seldom goes into Salida where their PO box is located.
