Gear and weight

I am a first time hiker, (wanna be) I haven’t started yet but I am quite nervous and may never start. I need some advice, pleeze…I have been practicing packing but can’t quite get below 250 lbs, and that’s just me. I am 65 yrs. Is that too old? What are the big three? I have a 2 lb. sleeping bag, 20 lb. logger boots ( great around rattlers) I don’t think I need a tent huh? And I need lots of food. Will these suffice?: jerky, dried fruit, powdered eggs, pre-cooked bacon, powdered milk, and would dry ice work for water? It would save a lot of weight. Any other tips would be welcome…I hope I can get some positive input…Because I am about to throw in my 3 lb. towel. Thanx. ‘Big Momma’ here.
Campo here I come… How do I get there from here? I live at the Ca./ Ore. border…

Go for it Big Momma! Y’all ain’t gettin any younger. At 250# ya might consider skipping the food too. It never rains in CA so the tent is out but I’d consider using the new Non-stick cast iron cookware from Lodge. It’s also good on snakes! My suggestion on getting there is to walk West from your house… about 500 miles or so.
