Georgia AT - Appalachian Trail

I am a middle aged married man with 4 kids and an ex avid hiker. I have always wanted to do the AT but you know I have kids and nagging wife syndrome. Well as it turns out I have a wedding to attend in Charolette on April 2. At last the perfect oppertunity to do a segment. I would like to Hike the southern end of the trail starting at springer mountain to Neels Gap. I do not yet have an AT guide book but looking at a map online it shows parking by Neels Gap. I will be driving and was wondering if anyone knows of any shuttle service or taxi in this area. I have been in Northern Gerogia before and a taxi service in this area is probably highly unlikely. I like to think I am im pretty good shape so I think I should be able to do this distance in three days. I am wondering if I should take my vehicle to Neels Gap area and then try and find a ride to the start of the trail or I should park by springer mtn and try and hitch a ride back. Anyone familiar with this area and parking and shuttle? Any advise would be very helpful. Thank you, CJ

The GA AT is doable in 3 days by most people. I’d recommend leaving your car at neels gap and getting a shuttle to Springer. Get the logistic issues out of the way early and know your car is waiting at the finish. Mountain Crossings at neels gap offers shuttles as well as several other individuals in the area.
