Hey guys, I’m new to this site and am still learning my way around. I would like to find out some imformation on hiking from Springer Mnt. to Gatlinburg. Some questions are how long it would take to hike it, aproximately how many miles, and what to expect if I started hiking in May. Thanks

It’s 203 miles. Figure about 2 1/2- 3 weeks to hike it. May is a great time to start.

What do you think would be a good 1 week - 1 1/2 week hike down south on the AT?

if you’ll let me butt in here, Springer to the Standing Indian loop would be a good hike if you can give yourself 10 days or so. Everything is of course relative to your hiking speed, but that’s not unreasonable.

How many miles is it from Spinger to Standing Indian Loop? I hike around 10-15 m.p.d. Thanks Gene

If VA is southern enough for you, I am heading out for a little over a week from Damascus during Spring break. Just a little down the AT heading north from Damascus is the Iron Mtn Trail, it is actually the old AT. I am taking that to where it crosses the AT again. Then back to Damascus through the Grayson Highlands on the AT. If you want details about the Iron Mtn Trail, check the South Western VA guide book and get the map for the Grayson Highlands and surrounding lands.
