I will be getting on the trail at Kennedy Meadows. Does anyone know the nearest airport to fly into and how hard/easy it is to get to KM

Closest Airport to KM that has “commercial” airline service is the Inyokern airport near Ridgecrest Ca. Might have to hitch from there.

as you may know, hichiking is a gamble, sometimes it pays quickly, other times, like the time i hitched from mojave to KM via scenic ridgecrest and inyokern (sh**holes, unfriendly), it sucks. i spent all day, literaly all day trying to get the 25-50ish miles from ridgecrest to KM. people were not nice to me, it was hot with no shade. i have hitched all over and not just around trails and that experience stands out in my mind as the PITS, the worst hitch ever. and believe me it has some competition. once i got to the road that went to KM, i was fine i just pretty much stopped traffic with my sign. but those on ramps around inyokern are not frequently or nicely used. i never felt threatened, well only slightly once, but NOONE picked me up.

excuse me for venting. i got there and forgot it in hours as i ate some food with meadow ed and then headed into the majestic sierra. no matter the hardship, so long as you get there with your gear and uninjured, it is worth it for that hike.

but i am saying you should actively try to secure a shuttle!

NO, NO, this was not karma for yellow blazing from mojave to KM, i was a section hiker. a easy and free section hiker starting at KM. so lay off.

Milo,
As aong time Ridgecrest resident, I never cease to be amazed by the local’s ability to size people up. If you were treated like you were a repugnant a-hole, it’s because you are a repugnant a-hole.

then reputable ridgecrest resident, do give this girl a ride!

ridgecrest wasnt so bad. inyokern kinda was. to its credit i got rides into and out of ridgecrest from locals. also, were i to look at where i reside, boston, from the eyes of a homeless hitchiker then it would be the supreme mean sh**hole. sorry to confuse my hot miserable experience with the character of the town. i know many nice people in the world who never pick people up.

On my hike this year, I will be stopping in Ridgecrest for a day at least. I’ve got an old friend that lives there that promised me that he’ll take care of me while up that way.
If you know when you are getting on the trail, let me know. Whoe knows, I may be in the area and can secure you a ride and avoid the hitch.
