Last year was easy getting out of Monson, ME. I caught a ride with someone driving south to I-95 and south from there and eventually to Portland. This summer I have the 100 mile Wilderness to finish my long awaited section hike of the AT. It has take me 18 years. I live in Atlanta and need to get to Monson. Flights are cheaper flying into Portland and then catching a bus north. One of the stops is Waterville, ME and the last stop is Bangor. What are my options from those two places? Is it possible to have the bus drop me off at Pittsfield, ME. Thanks for any help.

I believe you can get a bus to Medway Maine then hitch to Millinocket. Call the AT hostel in Millinocket and I believe they could shuttle you down to Monsen or call the hostel in Monsen (shaw's) and they may be able to go get you. All for a price of course. When Mr Shaw was still alive I drove to his place and he was more then happy to drive me to Millinocket so I could section hike back to his place. A two hour ride with Keith Shaw is a memory I will always look back at fondly.

My entire thru-hike was worth the price of admission for that ride from Keith Shaw Sr to Dover and back! I had heard about this and jumped when he said he was heading to town. Mr Toad’s Wild Ride!
And yes, the AT Lodge (Paul and Jaime Renaud) will shuttle from MNKT - you’re going to have to take a bus to BGR and then CYR lines to Medway where they will pick you up. It t’aint easy getting 'round Maine, but it’s wicked worth it living here!
