If you can handle Nutrasweet, the Crystal Light single use tubes are great in water. The Target and Walmart versions are good also, with different flavor options. Target also makes a fake G-Aid in single use tubes.
Even Kool Aid is making single use tubes these days!
My website is www.freezerbagcooking.com if you are interested in very easy recipes for on the trail

If you are using a bear cannister then rice is a great option. It packs down into any shape and you can fit way more rice than noodles or pasta. I managed to cram 14 days of food into one of those “park issue” cannisters. Yes it got old eating rice but it meant i could take three zero’s off trail next to the San Joquain, just south of the Muir Trail Ranch, superb

Cheers

P.S Check out the hot springs across the river from the ranch, very nice for hikers calves.

If size is an issue, try wild rice (I am very excited about it lately). Takes less dry wild rice to yeild the same amount of cooked. You can make it without cooking - just pop it in a ziploc/nalgene with some water about 6 hours before you want to eat.

Larabars (healthy, small, lots of calories). Hummus and crackers. Wild rice, salsa (dehydrated or fresh in packets), cheese, and some dried peppers/onions/etc mixed together. “Kitchens of India” or “tasty bite” http://www.tastybite.com/ ready-made indian/thai food (heavy, takes up space, but a great treat for the first night out). Spaghetti. Rice with chili (you can get chili powder from bulk stores).

I liked packing those bags of pepperoni you find on the racks in the supermarkets. They make meatless ramen better. They store a long time and they give you a little grease. Also powdered milk and grapenuts goes a long way. A block of chedder will last about 5 days kept close to your water.
